A sad day for our people

Today is indeed a sad day for our people. The forces of evil are eclipsing the last hindu kingdom of the subcontinent. In the recently concluded polls in Nepal, the maoists have won 25 of 40 seats for which results have been declared and are leading in 70 out of 122 constituencies. Their leader "Prachanda", which means the fierce one in Nepali, alias Pushpa Kamal Dahal has won his seat with a huge margin and many important candidates of the Nepalese Congress are trailing behind. The interlocutor from the government's side in the talks with the maoists and the home minister of Nepal, a political heavy weight from Nepal congress, Krishna Prasad Sitaula has lost. The communist party of nepal, party of the democracy abiding communists, is in for a resounding defeat. The other parties including the most important one , Nepal Congress, are likely to suffer heavy setbacks.

Nepal and India are two nations joined by bonds of blood. The peoples of both the countries belong to one and the same civilization. Any hindu pilgrimage is incomplete without visiting the abode of Lord Pashupatinath in kathmandu, the temple which only employs namboodri priests from kerela. The royal family and nobility shares blood ties with the royal houses and nobility from all over India. The Indian Army and the formerly royal, Nepal army share very close relations. We did not require visa to travel to Nepal, so close were the relations.

Now everything is going to change.

The 240 years old monarchy will most likely be removed and king deposed. With the monarchy, will go the civilizational bonds that India shares with Nepal. Already Nepal is a "secular" country, with secularism of communist style, and the "Royal" label has been removed from everything, from beaurocracy to the army. The army, which was loyal to the monarchy and was a pillar of the close relations India and Nepal shared, will also be disbanded and a new "national" army constituting of former rebels will be formed, in all likelihood.

The maoists are a retrograde force which wants to usher a classical communist revolution. They have spread a reign of terror all over Nepal and the bullet is a major factor which has contributed to their major victory through ballot. They refuse to acknowledge that the days of communism as an ideology and form of government are over. They do not hesitate to intimidate and supress other democratic forces to attain their goals. They derive their inspiration from Mao Tse Tung, the monsterous serpent, who swallowed Tibet, attacked India, poisoned his own people and casted his venomous shadow all over South Asia. They are an anti India force to the core and will leave no stone unturned to purge Nepal of anything that is remotely Indian.

Their victory will inspire our own left forces, from naxalites to parliamentarians, and re ignite their dreams of bringing about a communist revolution in India, a revolution which breaks India into many provinces and peoples, a revolution which completely erases our glorious culture and way of life, our identity and ultimately our existance. Communism though defeated and eradicated from most of this planet, now stands at our doorstep as a dreadful ghost from the worst nightmares. The evil red arc from Nepal, passing through Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Vidarbha, Orissa to Andhra Pradesh, like a dagger through India's flesh, will grow redder since one of its ends has almost captured the power of a state.

Our chinese enemies would certainly be very happy at these propects. Having brutally muzzled the Tibetans' weak cries for the right to exist, they should be really happy to see their efforts bearing fruits in yet another country under Indian influence. They have cleverly played the double game and won. They supplied arms to the Nepal Army when the king was in power for the world to see, but secretely funded and armed the maoists. Maoists are now at the top of the affairs and are certain to oblige their chinese masters and distance Nepal from India.

The real guilty in all this episode are the incumbant king and the political parties of Nepal. The short time for which nepal was supposed to be ruled democratically, the political parties engaged in large scale corruption and nepotism and unabashedly ignored peoples' aspirations. There was no development and governance was non existant. The chief political party , the Nepalese Congress used power to facilitate ubiquitous corruption.( What a coincidence, the name "Congress", evokes similar responses across India and Nepal!!)The late King Birendra, the beloved of Nepalese masses, along with most of the Royal family was killed in palace massacre, which is still shrouded in mystery. Many people believe that the current incumbant of the thone, King Gyanendra, was responsible for that unfortunate incident and his lust for power was the prime motive behind it. Considering his record as the King, the fact that he is a power hungry individual cannot be denied. The prince and first in line to the throne of Nepal, Prince Paras, is even more unpopular than his father, and is infamous for his immorality, adultery and rash driving through the streets of Kathmandu. The only chance of saving the institution of monarchy was lost when King Gyanendra refused to abdicate in favour of his grandson, bypassing Prince Paras, on the request of Premier Koirala, when there was still time.

Political parties in Nepal had a decade of democracy to set house in order, or atleast show the people a ray of hope, a possibilty of a better future. They had democracy at their disposal to represent the weaker sections of Nepalese society, repressed by centuries of feudalism. King Birendra was a peoples' king who would have supported the initiative of restucturing the Nepalese society. But their utter failure to do so filled he people of Nepal with gloom, a situation ripe for the virus of communism to replicate and plague Nepal. The failure of the Nepalese polity to represent the weaker sections of the Nepalese population and restructure the feudal Nepalese society were the principal reasons of the victory of communism in Nepal.

Communism is not required as a remedy on these ailments. A constitutional monarchy, with political parties loyal to the people and the king, and the king ultimately responsible to the people, would have sufficed as it did in England of the 1700s.

Worse, the new King tried to control fire by spraying oil. Instead of reforming the moribund democracy, he killed it with his own hands and emptied the space for the maoists. The people of Nepal, now between rock and hard place, have chosen the maoists, since all the other options have been tried. The doors of the temple have now been thrown open for the demon to enter.

The incompetent and power hungry king and corrupt political parties have lost, but along with them die the glorious institution of monarchy, defender of faith and tradition, and democracy, the liberator of the people.

China has emerged a victor and India the loser in the battleground of Nepal.
